Over past couple of years, gloves with sandy finish have become a very typical category in work glove industry. Most work glove vendors are now selling this type of gloves. Sandy finish is a kind of glove surfacing process technology which is used in a variety of gloves.
The advantage of gloves with sandy finish
Glove with sandy finish has a much better gripping performance compared to traditional crinkle finish glove, especially under wet and oily working condition. This makes handling slippery objects become much more efficient.
How sandy finish works
If you take a close look at the surface of sand finish coating, you will find thousands of microscopic pockets standing on the coating surface. It is them that makes an excellent grip performance. These microscopic pockets create a maximum bond with objects you handle which can significantly save your effort. As these pockets come into contact with a surface, they create a vacuum that disperses fluids and allows the entire grip surface to make clean contact with the object.
How sandy finish is made
Salt is the key in making sandy finish. As you may already know, for all coated gloves, the surface finish process comes after dipping procedure. At this process, the latex is only partially dried and then salt grains are evenly sprayed over the coating surface. After this process, salt grains stick to the coating and gloves are kept drying. Then comes to third step, washing. During washing, salt dissolves in water and eventually leaves thousands of microscopic pockets on coating.
Sandy finish with nitrile and latex coating type
Sandy finish is usually available with either nitrile coating or natural latex coating. Both of them have their own advantage and disadvantage comparatively. Nitrile sandy coating is thinner, more chemical and oil resistant, while latex sandy coating has better grip and is more soft.
Concern on sandy finish
I think dexterity should become the biggest concern for sandy finish gloves. Nitrile sandy glove is less flexible than traditional nitrile foam glove leading to less dexterity. Latex sandy glove is thicker that also reduces dexterity level. Personally, I think sandy finish glove would never reach to that high dexterity of Maxiflex.
